THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE ARTS AT OLGC SCHOOL. All of our children are naturally creative. This is a God given gift. When we take time and energy to nurture this gift, it can continue to grow throughout our lifetime. Through the arts, a person’s Faith can be inspired, understanding of the gospel and Bible stories can be revealed, and an appreciation of beauty, a kind heart, clear thinking, skills and work ethic all can develop. These qualities are helpful in many areas of life and worship, study and work.
In the news...Eighth grader Kailee Tomas’ artwork has been selected for the Hawaii Regional Scholastic Art Awards exhibit at the Hawaii State Art Museum (HiSAM). The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition initiative for creative teens. The 2018 Hawaii Regional Scholastic Art Awards showcases the exemplary artwork and talent of Hawaii’s students in grades 7-12. This year, 997 student artists submitted over 1,500 artwork for the jurors to consider. After much deliberation, 233 artwork were selected for the 2018 Hawaii Regional Scholastic Art Awards exhibition.
You also may have seen and enjoyed the local newspaper’s Keiki Kalikimaka ornament contest, including the work of Lyon Ferreira (Preschool 4).
Be on the lookout for the Young Artists of Hawaii contest. Last year we had a winner, Andrea Orioste (grade 4), and we are hopeful for our fine applicants this year.
Our OLGC student artists (all 170, Preschool - 8th grade) students are working hard on their projects for the upcoming student Art Show, scheduled to be held at the Pastoral Center on February 10 and 11. Please plan to stay after Mass for art and fellowship on that weekend.
