OLGC Outreach Ministry’s mission is reaching out to our community by providing food and fellowship to the needy and homeless and to fellowship with our volunteers and parishioners. OLGC is a certified HI Food Bank Member Agency and a certified food pantry which distributes canned and pre-packaged food commodities and on occasion frozen meats and poultry. Food items obtained from the HI Food Bank are provided by private donations and U.S. Dept. of Argriculture through two federal programs. Food items are also obtained from private donors and OLGC parishioners. Our Food Pantry serves each Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m..
Here are our volunteers and “Why I volunteer...”
Sue Agor – “A dear friend told me about ORM. A year later I joined and am happy and blessed. Each volunteer is awesome, kind, friendly, and thoughtful. I enjoy our clients; talking and praying with them.”
Fe Bartolome – “I joined ORM to serve those in need by providing life changing help to those often neglected.”
Cecilia Bustillo - “I want to help people.”
Edie Cabico – “I joined through the invitation of Mary Ishihara who was in charge as there were only two members. It has been very fulfilling to minister to our brothers and sisters in His capacity. I give thanks for giving me this opportunity.”
Agnes Casupang – “To administer to the needy and homeless and to continue my husband’s service to the needy and homeless.”
Lorraine Celedades – “It’s an honor for me to be part of this ministry, especially to see how greatly our needy brothers and sisters appreciate receiving assistance in their daily life needs. May the Lord bless this ministry.”
Frances Chang – “As a Christian, to help one another.”
Priscilla Hall – “I feel truly blessed by giving back to the church by serving the food pantry to help our needy and homeless brothers and sisters.”
Flo Hermosura – “I wanted to expand my ministry to other areas and to fellowship with other parishioners. Helping and servicing the needy and homeless was a good fit and a blessing.”
Amber Hernando – “I believe that it is what Jesus asked us to do – love one another. What better way than to feed those less fortunate.”
Janet Kaai – Janet is on the mainland. We know that she volunteers because of her love of God.
Mildred Kawakami – “A friend asked to join to help the needy and homeless. Being a new volunteer, I have come to appreciate all that I have been blessed with.”
Rose Magno – “Upon retiring in 12/12, I started a to-do bucket list. #1 was to volunteer at OLGC. I wanted to share my talent, offer my services. I joined ORM in 1/13 to be able to help the needy; seeing them glow and smile when receiving their food items have given me great joy and happiness. I am truly blessed to be a disciple of Christ.”
Florinda McCloud – “My life is incomplete without helping in-need . . so I volunteer my time.”
Carrie & Gerry Melchor – “We come to believe that it’s God’s given gift and privilege. We take it as a fun-filled communion shared with other volunteers and the less fortunate. ORM has given us joy and satisfaction while realizing with humble thankfulness to God’s continuous blessings and graces we receive thousand-full.”
Norma Remata – “Ministering with this wonderful group AND our clients have made me grow into a better person. Thank you Lord for giving me this wonderful gift of serving. . . to pray with them, hold their hand, hug, smile, share and comfort.”
Brian Soriano – “I love the Lord. I want to give back to the church for helping and guiding me during my wife’s illness and now my journey as a single parent. ORM is my family who fills the empty spots and has helped me become a better person.”
Kathy Sunada – “It is an honor to work with the ORM group. Out of gratitude for all the blessings received I feel compelled to give back to the community. Our clients are a beautiful group of people; I genuinely enjoy serving them. I try to treat them like family, to respect them, show God’s love and hopefully make their day a little better.”
Dee & Marvin Walsh – “ ORM is by far the best Ministry. We have so much great fellowship and it is very rewarding.”
