With the theme, “Celebrating 60 Years in Christ! Imua!, we come together to treasure the past, recognize our present and build our future for the next generations to come. (excerpt from Fr.Pascual’s message of July 28-29, 2018)
“We would go to early Mass and coming into church the first thing you would see was the beautiful crucifix with the altar under it. We would come to church dressed in our Sunday’s best to visit the King of Kings. When Fr. Nagai was pastor, we paid off our debt and he burned the mortgage bill and we had a luau for all the parishioners. He wanted to show his appreciation. Another thing I remember so clearly was when we did the bulletin in the Parish Office done on a typewriter and we would cut and paste. Every September we would have an appreciation breakfast after every Mass in the garage where the Pastoral Center sits now for all the parishioners." Gwen Dalire
“My favorite past experience at OLGC was the PRE (Parish Renewal Experience) activity led by pastor, Fr. Nagai. PRE was a mini retreat consisting of a limited group of parishioners held over a weekend. We had inspiring talks, interacted with each other and made new friends.
We learned we are the Church and at theend we were motivated to get involved with parish ministries. From this experience began my involvement in ministry. Fr. Nagai did a lot to advocate people to sign up. The end result of getting more people involved was successful for stewardship goals at that time. “ Sylvia Lee
“It was God’s plan for us when Bernard and I bought a home in Pearl City in 1968. As a couple with three children, we did our church obligation by just going to Mass every Sunday. Eventually, we met other families at OLGC who became good friends We encouraged each other to become active members in our parish by lecturing, singing in the choir and forming the Filipino Catholic Club (now called Filipino Ministry). To fire up our enthusiasm, we attended the Cursillo (apostolic movement) and PRE (Parish Renewal Experience) to learn how to become better Catholics. The more involved we became through these ministries, we developed a sense of belonging to God. We found our parish family, a bond we still have up to this day. This is our calling.” Bernard and Julia Cabatu “The pews were filled and there were many children who came to Mass. I remember Fr. Nagai telling the parishioners that it was fine to write a monthly check to cover for the weekly offerings. There were lots of fundraising like selling baked goods for the pews. The pews never came because the manufacturer stole the funds. Another fundraising was held and the pews finally came from a different manufacturer. Dress code was emphasized during this time.” Richard Evangelista
