The Parish Building Committee (PBC) met April 18th to discuss results of the recent maintenance and improvements survey. As was reported last month, the vast majority of parishioners prefer repairing and upgrading our exist-ing facilities before moving forward with Phase III of the Building Plan - the new office complex.
The PBC prioritized major projects based on the survey feed-back, recommendations from our insurance company and lots of discussion. Repaving the parking lot to correct the broken and cracked asphalt is number 1 because of safety. We expect
repaving to be completed before the beginning of the next school session and to cost about $100,000.
Priority number 2 is to install awning windows on the ground floor and loft areas to control unwanted rain, wind, dirt and stray animals. The awning window will be the same as the ones
installed adjacent the altar. Jalousie window and doors at the makai entrance of the church will also be replaced with new
awning windows and doors. Jalousie slats have fallen out
because of worn hardware making this a safety concern also. Estimates are being solicited for this project.
The PBC is pricing architectural rendering (sketches) of the church with pews in lieu of chairs. The first rendering will show the church with pews in the current configuration with the church oriented in a mauka to makai direction (oriented as it is now, just with pews in lieu of chairs). The second rendering will show the church re-oriented in an Ewa to Waikiki configuration, with pews, like the church was many years ago. When the renderings are available, the PBC will survey parishioners again for their preference on how to orient the church, facing mauka or facing the large crucifix on the Waikiki side wall and pews or chairs. Estimates will also be solicited then.
Other projects in planning include repainting the church interior, replacing church floors, photo voltaic (PV) electrical panel
installation with concurrent reroofing.
The PBC is working with the Finance Committee to forecast start dates for all the projects based on finance availability
