Our students have made many accomplishments this year; from academic to sports. I will elaborate more on the academic achievements. Some of the highlights of our efforts include the Patriot’s Pen, Science Fair, and Art Show.
In the Patriot’s Pen, our participants were asked to write an essay about the theme of this year which was “America’s Gift to my Generation.” The students who received awards were Hayden Benedict with fourth place,
Prescilla Pascua for third place, myself, Savanna Wilson with second place, and a fellow journalist, Kylie Canubida for first place. We have all been awarded a pendant, certificate, and check.
The Science Fair is a time when students actively become scientists. It usually takes about four months to complete the whole competition. Younger students do Science Fair as well but theirs is more research-based whereas sixth to eighth do experiments. This year, Nathan Bonnell, another fellow writer, Kailee Tomas, Kylie Canubida, Sakura Morita, Lauren Shaw, Kelina Fuerst, and Alexia MaeEleccion made it to district finals. Congratulations to Sakura and Kailee for moving onto the state competition which will take place in March and we wish them all the best.
Ms. Alyce had the younger students create an art piece and if they wished, they were able to enter it into a contest. Those whodid, had their artwork submitted online and then critiqued by two professional artists. Congratulations to Keana Kekoa for winning the contest! She will have her art displayed for a whole year at the Hawai’i Convention Center. Be sure to take a look at her amazing piece! Kailee Tomas was recognized for her art piece, Nanakuli Beach Park. She received a special certificate at the Hawaii State
Art Museum’s 55th Annual Hawaii Regional Scholastic Art Awards on Saturday, March 17th. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards isthenation’s largest, longest-running, most prestigious visual and literary arts program recognizing accomplishments of students in grades 7 – 12. Kailee’s winning piece will be on view at the Hawaii State Art Museum in downtown Honolulu now until Friday, April 13, 2018.
In conclusion, our students have done very well academically and are achieving more each year. Even though we have been blessed with awards, we do it in the Lord’s name always. Our school motto is “together with Christ, what we believe, we can achieve” for a reason!
