Senior Deacon Tom (retired) and wife Lois Miyashiro
Senior Deacon Tom is married to Lois (Nagatoshi of Holualoa, Kailua-Kona, HI) on December 19, 1970. They have one son, named Matthew.
Tom and Lois lived in Pearl City since 1974 and attend Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
Tom got baptized in 1962, during his senior year at Saint Louis High School. He attended Santa Clara University in California and received his BS and MS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in the Los Angeles and Orange counties in the aerospace industries until he made a career change. He returned to Honolulu in 1970 to teach at his alma mater. He taught Mechanical Drawing, Algebra I and II, Freshman Science, Physics, etc. In 1990, he later became a middle school counselor (Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University of Honolulu) until 2010 when he began counseling students from grades 6 through 12.
In 1977, Tom and Lois attended the OLGC Charismatic Prayer Meetings and made a Marriage Encounter weekend. In 1977, Lois was baptized and Tom applied for the new diaconate program.
Senior Deacon Tom was ordained on December 5, 1981 and has been a permanent deacon at OLGC since then. He has been involved in RCIA, Sunday Catechism classes, Marriage Encounter Love Circles, Stephen Ministry (pastoral care), hospice and assisted at Missionary Basic Christian Community (MBCC) retreats and prayer groups. He continues to do Baptism classes, baptisms, funerals, burials, marriage preparations, weddings and assists at and preaches at Sunday Masses. He teaches a marriage class called Christian Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (CPREP) classes. He regularly visits patients at the Pearl City Nursing Home.
