In the Apostle’s Creed we profess our belief in the Communion of Saints. The communion of saints is the spiritual solidarity which binds together the faithful on earth, the souls in purgatory, and the saints in heaven in the unity of the same Mystical Body of Christ. We participate in this unity each time we gather as a community to celebrate our faith. Since Vatican
II, a lot of churches have removed the saints from our worship space, but they are part of our faith community and they continue to participate in our liturgies in worshiping God and there are times when we actually ask for their intercessions.
The Church canonizes saints and celebrates their lives at Mass for a number of reasons: to encourage us asking their help and prayers, that their lives become a model us to be imitated and they give us encouragement.
Here at Our Lady of Good Counsel, we will put up a number of koa panels in our church in the coming months and I would like to invite you to bring your favorite saint or a saint from your particular country. The only condition is that all the saints have to be three feet tall so that they fit nicely in the koa panels and our church looks more consistent and symmetry. If you have any questions, please contact our parish office.
